Palm Oil

Thanks to my Society and Environment class, I have found out about Palm Oil. I'd seen the signs at the zoo but hadn't really put two and two together and understood what it meant or how many things have palm oil in them. Or the effects it has on the rainforests and therefore the globe. :(
I think this is a case of "I'd like to change something in my life to help this issue". It'll be really hard to cut all palm oil out of my life, but cutting down would be great. However it's really hard to figure out what has palm oil in it and what doesn't!
It's been suggested that one way to do it is to cook and grow more things yourself- I think I'm inspired. Not quite sure when I'll be able to do this, but I could even start with just biscuits to snack on, or making sure the tomatoes are planted this year.
Has anyone else in Australia reading this tried to grow a vegetable garden? What worked in the heat? What was worth the effort? Mum's always said that carrots and potatoes aren't worth the effort because we eat so many of them. I don't eat that many herbs, or sprouts. Maybe I should start. I'm a big fan of tomatoes. What else could I try for? Maybe things that my family eats (like cucumbers!) even if I don't.

Pirate Hooks

Weird question, but does anyone have a pirate hook and a digital camera?

http://www.flickr.com/photos/jenlala/1940928369/
I'd like some photos like this, with a pirate hook lifting things or grabbing things.
I'm teaching apostrophes, and I thought that pirate hooks might be a good representation of them for possessive apostrophes. You know, he grabs what he owns with his hook.
I would use the photo above (she's taken more) but it's all rights reserved and I have to be legal about this as it's going in a 'photo story' presentation on youtube.

Etsy

I've just spent the last few days working really hard on my Etsy shop (http://wwww.livinginthepast.etsy.com), where I'm selling dollhouse miniatures. I've actually sold two things now! That was a bit scary but also hugely fun, sending out the parcels and whatnot. I'm glad that my things are sellable too, I've always been a bit nervous that my stuff is total crap, only worth it if people get it for free. In previous miniatures fairs, I only made about $27. I have made almost that much on Etsy in the past week. I sold a miniature sewing machine, that was designed to look like the little pretend ones that kids in the 50s used to play with, it was blue and white and I'd painted flowers and butterflies onto the white bits. I'd only made it a few days before, I think it had been on Etsy for about two days! The other was two icecream cones that I had made years back actually, but they'd only been on Etsy for a day as well! Hopefully they won't break in the mail... I think that the woman who bought those is actually a shop, looking at her buying history. Which is pretty exciting for me! Also guess what colour I've picked for my tissue paper? :P Yep, purple!

I went looking up some things on wikipedia about the book series of Jeeves and Wooster. And I found this. (I haven't read all the books.)

Jeeves is a member of the Junior Ganymede Club, a club for butlers and valets, in whose club book all members must write down all the exploits of their employers. Thus, butlers and valets can be forewarned before taking up employment with the more infamous employers mentioned in the club book. The section labeled 'WOOSTER B' is the largest in the book. In Jeeves and the Feudal Spirit it contained "eleven pages" and by Much Obliged Jeeves it has grown to "eighteen pages". However, at the end of Much Obliged, Jeeves, Jeeves informs Bertie that he has destroyed the eighteen pages, anticipating that he will never leave the latter's employment, thus eliminating the need to inform prospective valets about his employer's quirks; Bertie's answer provides the book with its name.

awwwwww! :D
